Curcumin Absorption Levels
Phosphatidylcholine is the main excipient in Curcumin Phytosome, which provides a medium for curcumin delivery in the formulation where curcumin is merely 20-25% by weight. This curcumin-phospholipid complex fails to inhibit the curcumin transformation and in reality only aids in absorption of the therapeutically inactive conjugates of curcumin and not the curcumin itself. The key to improving the therapeutic potential of curcumin is to inhibit its biotransformation into the inactive conjugates such as curcumin-glucuronides, the curcumin-phospholipids complex fails in this respect in addition to provide very little curcumin for the price paid by the consumers (500mg of formulation contains 20-25% of curcumin).
